WEYMOUTH interim manager Jason Matthews expects an “energy-sapping” derby with arch-rivals Yeovil Town this afternoon (1pm).

The Terras welcome Yeovil and a Glovers following in excess of 2,000 to the Bob Lucas Stadium tomorrow.

Mark Cooper’s men have all the pressure of expectation on their shoulders as they look to take another giant step towards the Vanarama National League South title.

They know two more victories, regardless of any other results, will secure them an instant return to the National League as champions.

But Weymouth could delay their party by taking a first victory over Yeovil since Boxing Day 1988 as they prepare for their first home game since the exit of boss Bobby Wilkinson on Wednesday.

Ahead of what promises to be a blockbuster occasion, Matthews says there is “no bigger game” for the Terras.

He told Echosport: “What bigger game? For me, you’d give everything to play in that game.

“Credit to the boys, they gave everything (against Bath) and I just hope they can give that sort of performance.

“The actual occasion in itself will be energy-sapping. I’ve played in those games and it’s brilliant. You come out and it gives you that buzz.”

Expanding on Yeovil, Matthews moved to play a few mind games with the Glovers ahead of the mouth-watering clash.

He told Weymouth’s media team: “There’s no bigger game for Weymouth than Yeovil and I’m sure the boys will give me their best shot.

“I’m sure they’ll want to give a good account of themselves. It’s a massive game for the fans.”

Ben Winterburn could make his second debut for Weymouth, who also have a minor concern over Teddy Howe. Brandon Goodship is also nursing a tight hamstring.
