MARK Molesley has made a sensational return as Weymouth’s new manager on what is expected to be a two-year deal with the Terras.

Molesley, winner of back-to-back promotions with Weymouth in 2018/19 and 2019/2020, succeeds Bobby Wilkinson as boss after his departure on Wednesday.

It comes after Molesley on Thursday resigned from his post at Hayes & Yeading United, with the Middlesex club 18th and fighting to stay up in the division below.

Eastbourne Borough away will be Molesley’s first match back in charge on Saturday (3pm).

Since leaving Weymouth in August 2020, Molesley has battled to live up to the same highs he achieved at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

League One side Southend United came in for his services but the ex-Bournemouth midfielder only won only eight of his 40 matches in charge after replacing Sol Campbell in the hotseat.

Molesley moved on to National League side Aldershot in September 2021 but lasted only 13 months at the Shots, who were 22nd of the 24 teams at the time.

The 2-0 FA Cup loss at National League South side Chelmsford spelled the end for Molesley, along with assistant Tom Prodomo.

Molesley later dropped down to Step 3 level, taking a short-term director of football and management deal at Gosport Borough.

He led Boro to a finish of 17th in the Southern League Premier South before choosing to step down at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Molesley went on to manage again in the same division, assuming the manager’s job at Hayes & Yeading in October 2023 before leaving with United just one point above the drop zone and eight matches remaining.

Four days later, Molesley was unveiled as Weymouth manager prior to the abandoned derby with Yeovil Town.
