DORCHESTER Town could secure their place in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South for 2024/25 by drawing with Hanwell Town at the Avenue Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

Should Tom Killick’s Magpies lose, then Hayes & Yeading must beat Gosport, Tiverton must beat champions Chesham and Beaconsfield must, at worst, draw with Poole to prolong Dorchester's wait for safety.

Dorchester know the lowest they can finish is 19th, the final relegation spot, given their 54-point tally already cannot be beaten by Swindon Supermarine, Harrow and Didcot.

At the other end of the table, the ninth-placed Magpies are not mathematically out of play-off contention.

However, using only four remaining games they must overhaul a nine-point gap to Merthyr in fifth to take their place in the post-season.

Killick told Echosport: “I know it’s stating the obvious, but you’ve just got to not lose sight of what’s put you in this position.

“Not get over-confident but still enjoy the fact that there is a big belief amongst the group and try and take advantage of that.

“We’re looking forward to games now. We’ve got a lot of tired bodies so we’ll try and get the players fresh and ready.”

Killick scrapped training yesterday evening to give his squad a chance to recover following a madcap Easter programme.

He said: “Sometimes people have to travel decent distances to get to training. You have to weigh up the positives and negatives.

“I’d rather them stay and not have the travelling and exertion, not feel after a tough run of games that they’ve got to come in.

“They’re all working for a living, so we’ll give them Thursday off and they can recover well and be fresh again mentally and physically.

“I just sense there’s times where non-League players you need to give them a break. That’s what we’re going to do.”

Meanwhile, Killick confirmed Jack Dickson will miss the next three matches with suspension having begun his four-game ban at the 2-1 win over Sholing on Tuesday.

He joins Will Spetch on the sidelines, the centre-back currently two games into a five-match suspension.

Both players return for the season finale at home to AFC Totton on Saturday, April 27 (3pm).

Marcus Daws (calf) could return after missing the Sholing win.
