Gee was a versatile left-winger also capable of playing in central midfield.
He managed 84 appearances for the Terras between 1994 and 1995, scoring eight times.
Gee was most recently assistant boss with Step 4 club Chichester City in the Isthmian League South East division.
He had helped lead City into the play-off positions, where they currently reside in fourth spot.
Back in March, Gee said he had been given only three months to live following a terminal diagnosis.
