WEYMOUTH travel to a resurgent Welling United side still looking for their first positive result under new boss Mark Molesley.

The Terras visit Greater London having lost 1-0 at Eastbourne and 2-0 at Maidstone United in Molesley’s first two games.

Travelling for those fixtures amounted to more than 600 miles and another lengthy journey to south-east London provides another physical test for Weymouth.

Adding to the fixture’s complexity is Welling’s form, which under new boss Rod Stringer has produced only two losses in 15 league matches, lifting the Wings out of the bottom four.

And Welling’s 0-0 draw with Havant & Waterlooville on Wednesday lifted them above Weymouth into 15th, before the Terras leapfrogged United thanks to being awarded the victory over Yeovil.

Speaking to Echosport, Molesley said: “It’s going to be really difficult, another team like Eastbourne who are in good form.

“Another team that wasn’t tipped to be down there, an experienced manager and some really good players. So, it’s a tough away travel and sticky conditions.

“It’s got all the hallmarks of a tough game, so I’m really looking forward to it. Three away travels in a week would have most Premier League managers weak at the knees.

“This is going to be another test and I’m looking forward to seeing how we can attack it.”

Weymouth’s fixture schedule will see Molesley tackle four successive away days before the season finale at home to Farnborough.

He added: “That’s all part of the challenge. It’s not often you would have that amount of away games in that short space of time.

“We certainly couldn’t have come into a more congested (schedule) and they’re not too kind geographically, either.

“You can sit there and moan or you can find out more about ourselves, how we recover, how resilient we are and how professional we are in preparing.

“We’ll control everything we can control, everything else is out of it.

“I’m frustrated I can’t get these lads out on the training pitch for a consistent time, that’s not going to happen this season, so we’ll take it as we find it at the moment.”

Molesley also raised concerns about the fitness of Ben Winterburn (ankle) and Teddy Howe (groin) for the remaining matches this season.

On Bournemouth loanee Winterburn, he said: “He’s had a nasty twist to the ankle and it’s a real shame, seeing him for half an hour.

“We were just building his minutes up. He was due to do 60 minutes (at Maidstone), he’s a young exciting player.

“He’s left on crutches and with lots of games left, we really needed the numbers.

“In such short succession, I do wonder whether we’ll see him on the pitch again this season, which is a crying shame.”

Assessing Howe, Molesley said: “Again, he could be a doubt. He’s nursing a groin injury at the moment so we’re going to have to hope.

“We’ve not got a lot of time for recovery. At this stage, it’s who we can patch up and get out on the pitch.”

Charlie Rowan will also be assessed after coming off at Maidstone.

“That was a precaution,” Molesley said.

“He felt quite tight from Saturday and that followed again. You need to be so careful, I had to wrap him up. Charlie’s a really important player for us and he was in the red zone.

“Anything longer and that might’ve turned into something more long-term. Hopefully we’ve caught it at the right time. We’re hoping he can recover for Saturday.

“If not, he’ll play his part in some fixtures after that.”
