WEYMOUTH are safe after being awarded three points following the abandonment of their derby with Yeovil Town on Easter Monday.

After an investigation by The FA, it means Weymouth have beaten the Glovers for the first time since Boxing Day 1988.

Significantly, the Terras are now safe in the Vanarama National League South for 2024/25 due to Hemel and Taunton both playing each other on the final day, meaning both sides cannot overtake Mark Molesley's men.

The Terras were leading 1-0 against Yeovil thanks to Dan Roberts' goal in the 32nd minute and held the lead for an additional 45 minutes.

That was until a medical emergency in the Yeovil end forced the game’s abandonment.

National League chiefs set a precedent earlier this week when handing three points to Slough Town, who were leading 4-2 against Bath City when they too were forced off in a medical emergency.

And, following Yeovil’s title win on Thursday, league chiefs have moved swiftly to allay any fears of a replay on Tuesday.

In a statement, the National League said: "The National League can confirm a decision has been reached following the abandonment of the match between Weymouth and Yeovil Town.

“Following an investigation by the Football Association the league has now determined the outcome of the abandonment from the National League South fixture on April 1.

“It has been decided that the game is not to be replayed, and the match has been awarded to Weymouth in accordance with League rules.

“Weymouth were 1-0 in front when a medical emergency affecting a supporter occurred during the second half of the match at the Bob Lucas Stadium earlier this month.

“Tables will be updated accordingly. Regulations state that while the home club are awarded three points, goals for and against are not to be added.”
