DORCHESTER Town boss Tom Killick was effusive in his praise of goalkeeper Jameson Horlick for a commanding display in the safety-securing 2-1 win over Hanwell Town.

Former Weymouth striker Josh Oyinsan poked Hanwell in front but goals in each half from Shaq Gwengwe and Will Fletcher turned the game around.

Horlick more than played his part, making a number of big saves and running complete control over his penalty area whenever Hanwell resorted to aerial tactics.

And Killick hopes the “exceptional” 21-year-old Luton loanee goes on to have a fruitful career with the Hatters.

“Jameson in goal, I just spoke to the group, we owe him so much,” Killick told Echosport.

“With these games where you’re in front by one goal, which has been the case quite a few times over recent weeks, at this level of football you’re almost inevitably going to get an aerial bombardment at the end of the game.

“And, to have him claim balls in the box in the way that he does, it has just been a massive contribution to us seeing these games out.

“Don’t get me wrong, Ed (James), Ieuan (Turner), the whole back four were again very good but to have someone in goal who comes out and gets those balls into the box is absolutely valuable.

“He has just been an exceptional acquisition for us in terms of what he’s given us on the pitch and off the pitch.

“I feel very, very grateful to Luton and grateful to him. Hopefully, he’s got something good out of it as well.

“He’s been a huge feature for us. On a personal level, I really hope he goes on to have a good career. I think he deserves it and very much hope he does.”

Victory ensured Dorchester consolidated their position in Step 3 for another season with three games to spare.

Killick added: “I thought even four or five weeks ago that it would really go down to the wire.

“It’s so unpleasant and nerve-racking to be in amongst it. So, to be in the position we’re in is a huge positive.

“I’m really happy for the supporters because I just feel there is a really good feeling around the place.

“They’ve been exceptional in a way that they’ve supported us at home and in decent numbers away.

“Ultimately, we don’t get anything for it, there’s no trophy for finishing ninth, but I just feel they deserve a little bit of positivity and the players deserve a great deal of credit in giving them that.

“I’m really happy that the supporters are enjoying themselves at the moment. Long may that continue.”

After the Magpies took a fourth successive win, extending to 11 games their unbeaten run, Killick feels Dorchester have picked up a winning habit despite not being at their fluent best.

“Exactly, that. We know we weren’t at our best, we weren’t fluent,” he said.

“We were a bit stuttery. Credit to Hanwell, they’re in the position they’re in and they’re not going to give you anything easily. That was certainly the case.

“Towards the end they really got after it and will possibly be a bit disappointed sometimes with a lack of quality perhaps when they really needed it.

“It wasn’t a lack of effort. We were put under the gun and again we’ve come through.

“I’m just so happy for the group because it’s so well deserved in terms of what they’ve put into matches and what they’ve become.”

Dorchester travel to relegation-threatened Tiverton Town on Tuesday (7.45pm).
