FORMER Weymouth manager Bobby Wilkinson has made a fast return to management after landing the vacant job at Hemel Hempstead Town.

Signing a two-year deal, Wilkinson succeeds Alan Dowson as Tudors’ boss having parted company with Weymouth three weeks ago on ‘mutual’ terms.

Hemel parted company with Dowson earlier today.

Wilkinson led Weymouth to the ‘Great Escape’ last season and exited with the Terras in 15th and on the brink of National League South safety.

By contrast, the Tudors are fighting for security themselves with one game remaining after Saturday's 3-2 loss to Slough at Vauxhall Road.

Hemel are four points above the drop zone but could be overtaken by all of Taunton, Eastbourne and Torquay who possess at least one game in hand.

In a club statement, Hemel said: “Following a thorough recruitment process, Bobby emerged as the standout candidate, boasting a wealth of experience and a proven track record wherever he has gone.

“Following this process, Bobby has agreed to come in earlier than planned so he can get to work immediately, based on the current scenario.

“Given Bobby's undeniable qualities and the urgent need for stability, the club has made the decision to appoint him now, allowing him and his management team time to secure our safety this season and prepare thoroughly for the next season.

“Bobby brings a deep understanding of the challenges inherent in our league and the immediate task ahead of us going into a crucial week in our season.

"His impressive CV includes successful promotions and notable achievements, demonstrating his ability to deliver results even in the most difficult of circumstances.

“It goes without saying that in order for the club to move forward, we need everyone united for this final week of the season and we have no doubt that Bobby, along with his management team, will galvanise the club going forward.”

Wilkinson also beat Hemel Hempstead twice this season, winning 2-1 away and 4-3 at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Wilkinson is joined by assistant Mike Percival after previous stints with Hungerford, Wealdstone and Bracknell.

Wilkinson’s first game will by the Tudors’ last of the season, away to relegation-threatened Taunton.
