WIMBORNE 264-7 (10pts) v BERE REGIS 0-0 (8pts) – match abandoned

RAIN ruined any prospect of a positive result for Bere Regis in their Wessex Internet Dorset Premier League clash at leaders Wimborne.

Brian Keegan’s men stay in fourth after coming away with eight points, while Wimborne earned ten for scoring maximum batting points plus five following the no result.

It means Wimborne extended to 27 points their lead over Dorchester, who managed nine at fellow title hopefuls Poole before the weather intervened.

The Minstermen were in impressive form with the bat after Keegan won the toss and chose to field, hoping to utilise the ominous overhead conditions.

After Rich Cole (1-25) snaffled a return catch off Colin Randall (8), Ben Bridgen (51) and Joe Kelly (111) showed their class with a 131-run stand for the second wicket.

Toby Stainer-Reid (29), Harry Serjeant (22no) and Harry Fairchild (20) inflicted further pain before spinners Sam Goodhew (3-39) and Dean Rogerson (2-35) enjoyed success.

However, Kelly’s innings was the highlight, coming off 120 balls and containing 16 fours before Goodhew pouched a return catch.

When the rain came, no further play was possible as the match became one of 26 in the Dorset League to fall victim to the elements.
