WEYMOUTH 152-4 (20pts) beat PARLEY II 151 (5pts) by six wickets

WEYMOUTH continued their quest for promotion out of County Division Two after a six-wicket win over Parley Seconds at Redlands.

They remain 15 points behind leaders Corfe Mullen, who thrashed Shaftesbury by eight wickets.

Back in May, the Seasiders thumped Parley by 201 runs but this encounter was far closer.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Parley made a strong start with Spencer Savage finding the boundary regularly.

But Weymouth worked around Savage’s hitting and a switch to spin changed the course of the game.

Leg-spinner Shafeek Urumancheri (2-45) got the breakthrough and he was backed up by off-spinner Harry Mitchell, who crucially bowled Savage to end his 91-ball knock containing 15 fours.

Weymouth skipper Lloyd Beals (4-21) then ran through the tail along with leg-spinner Fletcher Tarry (1-13) as Parley were dismissed for 151 having been 123-4.

Making a solid opening to their reply, Beals (19) and Tommy England guided Weymouth to 46-0 before their captain was bowled by Andy Symes (1-35).

England was unperturbed though and rebuilt in robust fashion with Kieron Womble as the duo shared 67 for the second wicket.

England stroked six fours in his 85-ball stay at the crease and reached 50 only to depart soon afterwards as Saichand Muddapuram (2-37) had him caught by James Miller.

Womble (43 off 49 balls) was deprived of his own half-century by Henry Evans (1-15) and Muddapuram earned Parley another point by removing Connor Wills (5).

However, Mark Gregory (15no) and Jack Sapsworth (6no) steered Weymouth home with 10.5 overs to spare.

Elsewhere, Weymouth Seconds lost their grip on top spot in Division Five, losing to Winton Seconds by three wickets.
