SHERBORNE 236-5 (9pts) lost to MARTINSTOWN 240-8 (17pts) by two wickets

MARTINSTOWN won a Wessex Internet Dorset Premier League thriller at Sherborne by two wickets.

Charlie Durant’s side are in hot pursuit of fifth place and a spot in the top half of the table, with only two games remaining.

They enhanced their chances by beating Sherborne, currently fifth, despite a wonderful 107 not out for Marc Lock.

Will Sharman (34) and James Elliot-Square (33) also provided good contributions as Sherborne posted 236-5.

Martinstown were anchored by Ed Nichols (52), who fell to Will Tatham (1-19) in amongst a burst of three wickets by Tim Durston.

Will Maltby struck 69 from 72 balls before he too perished to Durston (4-40) and the wickets tumbled on as Elliot-Square (2-50) helped reduce Town to 211-8.

With 26 still needed for victory, Durant blasted 28 from 19 balls, his highest score for Martinstown, to lead his team to the winning line with an entertaining captain’s innings.

Speaking to Echosport, he said: “When we needed 30 to win and I was still in, I thought we were done.

“We’ll take it, the chase was set up by Ed and Will, who batted magnificently together like they always do.

“On the whole, we stayed at it bowling and fielding-wise and batting I’m grateful to get us over the line.”

Martinstown Seconds lost to Wimborne Thirds by ten wickets in County Division Four.
