STALBRIDGE DEVELOPMENT 114 (7pts) lost to WEYMOUTH II 209 (20pts) by 95 runs

WEYMOUTH Seconds wrapped up the County Division Five title with a 95-run victory over Stalbridge Development.

Andy Jarvis and Andy Anderson’s side were already assured of promotion but their maximum-point haul means they cannot now be caught by Poole Town Fourths, who reside 28 points behind.

The triumph backs up their Division Six title victory in 2022.

Stalbridge won the toss and chose to field first, Jack Taylor (42) continuing his superb season with the bat, taking his tally to 482.

Pete Sapsworth (26) also contributed at the top but the Seasiders were grateful to valuable knocks of 29 and 36 respectively from tailenders Graham Puckett and Jackson Jose to help clear the 200 mark.

Some 38 extras also helped their cause, with unorthodox spinner Andy Dike claiming 3-17 as Weymouth were dismissed for 209.

In reply, only Oscar White (37) had any answer to the Seasiders’ formidable attack.

Puckett took a superb 1-5 off five overs, while Andy Jeffreys (2-13) and Jose (2-15) bowled well to keep the hosts in check.

The final wicket was a rare ‘timed out’ against Harry Lewis as Stalbridge perished for 114.

Speaking to Echosport, Anderson said: “A great season and a great team effort and pride in the club has given this end result.

“The most important part has been the availability and commitment of players. This follows on from winning Div Six last year with the same group.

“Highlights have been the runs scored by youngsters Jack and Pete plus bowling contributions from Evan Green and Graham.

“The team were also awarded ‘team of the month’ for July.

“I’m so proud of our achievements and the overall improvements seen at the club over recent seasons. Weymouth is becoming a booming cricket club once again.”
