A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of kidnap after armed police were mobilised.
Police received a report of a woman in distress at around 4am on Wednesday, April 24 in the Newtown area of Poole.
The county force has now confirmed that a 40-year-old man from Poole was arrested on suspicion of kidnap, possession of a knife/bladed article in a public place and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Officers were on the scene throughout Wednesday carrying out their investigations, with armed officers seen in Croft Road, Sea View Road and near the Tesco in Ringwood Road.
The police said there is nothing to indicate any wider risk to the public, and that the arrested man and the victim are known to each other.
A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “A 40-year-old man from Poole was arrested on suspicion of kidnap, possession of a knife/bladed article in a public place and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
“The police cordon at the address has now stood down.
“The arrested man and the victim are known to one another.”
