Police have released images of items stolen from a church in Dorset as they appeal for information.
As previously reported, a number of brass items were reported to be stolen following a break-in to St Peter’s Church on Grove Road, Portland.
These included two plaques, candlesticks and a crucifix.
The incident is said to have taken place around 7.30pm on Sunday, April 14 and police have now released images of the stolen items as they appeal for more information.
The church, which was built between 1870–72 using convict labour from the adjacent Portland Prison, is no longer in use and privately owned, features on Historic England’s ‘at risk’ register.
Police Community Support Investigator Matt Barton, of Dorset Police, said: “We are conducting a number of enquiries into this burglary and I am appealing for anyone with information regarding this incident to please contact us.
“I am also issuing images of some of the items that were stolen and would urge anyone who comes across similar items locally or being offered for sale in suspicious circumstances to please get in touch.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55240055586. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
