A man was stabbed in an assault in Littlemoor, Weymouth prompting a huge police response - with a hunt for the offender underway.

Dorset Police received a report at 8.42pm on Saturday, May 4 that a man had sustained suspected stab wounds following an assault in Canberra Road.

The victim – aged in his 30s – was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries that are not life-threatening.

A second victim, a woman aged in her 30s, sustained an injury to her hand during the incident that also required hospital treatment.

It led to a major police response on Saturday with armed officers at the scene as well as the police helicopter, several response cars and ambulances. Roads around the Littlemoor estate were blocked off as forensic examinations were carried out and the injured were treated.

The hunt for the offender continues today as police appeal for information from the public.

Police said a cordon remains in place at the scene today while enquiries are carried out and officers can be approached by anyone "with information or concerns”.

Pictures from the scene on Sunday show a house cordoned off with a police officer outside. Forensic teams have been going in the property as part of their investigations. A number of police vehicles are parked in the road.

Detective Sergeant Emma Swann, of Dorset County CID, said: “An investigation is underway and extensive searches of the area have been carried out to locate the offender, with support from the NPAS helicopter.

“I am appealing to anyone who saw what happened, or has information about the suspect, to please come forward.

“Also, I am keen to hear from any residents or motorists in the area who may have captured anything of relevance on either home CCTV or dashcam footage.

Local councillor Louie O'Leary said: “My thoughts are with the people involved and their family. We have seen the police presence in the area and I know they’re out in force to ensure the situation is promptly resolved.

“This is not a regular occurrence so there’s no reason people should be too concerned. It’s certainly a terrible incident but it doesn’t reflect on the area of Littlemoor as a whole.

“I fully support the police appeal and would encourage anyone who knows anything about what happened to come forward so the incident can be resolved.”
